This video shows a timelapse of the 4 hour livestream yesterday (27th July). You can read more details in the last blog-post.

Live codestream 27.07

There will be a livestream/live codestream today at 22:00 (10PM) CEST. The focus for todays development and devstream will be implementing a basic and functional GUI system. I'll start on making a rough version of how the inventory will look etc. There are also some more additions to the inventory and how the inventory is handled that will be made. Dynamic loading of items from codefiles is an example. The game will support thousands of various items that you will be able to fetch and grab throughout the game. In the future you might be able to see procedurally generated items. Who knows?

Anyhow, this is the plans for today's stream:

  • ITEM/INVENTORY Dynamic loading of items
  • ITEM/INVENTORY Support of images of items (type flat images (for inventory etc)). [Currently the plan is that only equippable items will have 3d-models - this makes it easier for larger amounts of items]
  • GUI Adding a "base" for general GUI in the game.
  • GUI Starting on a basic inventory GUI that can be expanded later..

So be sure to tune into the stream today (27.07.2014 22:00 CEST)!

Stream can be found here: www.twitch.tv/erlendftw/

EDIT:

The livestream lasted from 22:00 to around 01:50, thanks for everyone tuning in!;D

The following of the goals got completed today:

  • GUI Adding a "base" for general GUI in the game.
  • GUI Starting on a basic inventory GUI that can be expanded later..
  • ITEM/INVENTORY Support of images of items (type flat images (for inventory etc)). [Currently the plan is that only equippable items will have 3d-models - this makes it easier for larger amounts of items]
  • GUI Healthbar, hungerbar, thirstbar (Amnesia will NOT have it's own bar, atleast not yet).

Continued development and plans

The current plans for development of the game is to:

Improve the game world

Continue the world design, add some more elements and make a somewhat "complete" world. (Which ofcourse will be altered later). If you'd like to come with some tips and additions you'd like to see in the game then add a comment with some ideas! I promise I'll look into all the comments and tips I get. (Tips can also be sent to erlend.ame@gmail.com).

Inventory and items!

What's a survival game without inventory and items? To make sure that the development of this game is carried out without too many headaches, I have decided to write the "fundaments" of the game first. Therefore an item-system will be the first thing I'll develop. The user inventory will also be developed, but the graphical part will be completed later when I have selected a permanent solution for handling GUI-content.

Development stream?

I have decided that I want to develop this game with input from the audience and allow you to watch the game grow as time passes by. I'll add a link and button to the Twitch-stream, which probably will be embedded into this site at a later point.

Sometimes I'll announce the times of the dev-streams before the actual development starts.. sometimes I might just start streaming randomly! Be sure to subscribe.

Welcome to the devblog

Welcome to the first devblog on the "The Living Island" developer blog. I will be using this blog to document updates and progress with the game, as well as listening to tips and ideas that I receive from others. I'll post some test videos, some screenshots and share some development plans. I won't share too much information just yet, but I can tell as much as that this game will be a survival game situated on a lost island with great dangers, beautiful nature (hopefully) and great opportunities.

Here's a quick video showing the first demonstration of the body/character decoration system. It's important to blend in with the nature if you don't want to get seen by the enemy.

I'm exited about this first post, and I for sure hope it won't be the last.
